In March 2020, Cobus Joubert from WAWA Surfboards and Wofgang Albrecht from "The Local Surfboards Project" tested an initial workshop at the WAWA Store in muizenberg/ Cape Town.
In cooperation with Surfpop and 9 miles project, two amazing youth organizations from Cape Town, 10 kids had the chance to make their first experience in working with wood. They designed and created their own handslides and hawaiien style Alaias. The kids were stoked and tested their new selfmade toys the following week in the surf.
This workshop was a proof of concept for the "Local Surfboards Project" and gave us loads of experiences and learnings about how we can run this kind of programs.
Thanks to Esti Strydom from luxxymedia for taking awesome footage of this exciting day.
